Columbus police are searching for a suspect wanted for shooting a woman and 7-year-old child Monday, September 22, 2025, at approximately 6:43 p.m. Patrol Officers responded to the 1800 block of Susan Lane in reference to reports of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and located several shell casings in the roadway but no victims.
Shortly after, a separate 911 call was received reporting two gunshot victims at the Columbus Police Department’s East Precinct. The victims, a 24-year-old woman and her 7-year-old son, were transported by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional. The child sustained minor injuries, and the woman is listed in critical condition.
The Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene to take lead on the investigation.
Preliminary investigation identified Jontay Reynolds, 28, as the suspect. He is the female victim’s husband and the child’s father. Warrants have been issued for Drive-By Shooting and two counts of Aggravated Assault (Family Violence) for the arrest of Reynolds. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
