Wildcats score 36 unanswered in rout of Warriors [VIDEO]

Rabun County scored the game’s first 36 points in a lopsided 42-6 win, marking the first of many for new coach Rance Gillespie.

Lightning delayed the game to an 8:15 start, but it was worth the wait. The rain caused back-to-back turnovers on consecutive plays, as Rabun fumbled away the first play and got it back on a Ryan Yearwood interception on the next.

A few big plays later led to a Reid Giles 3-yd TD. On the ensuing possession, Ty Truelove orchestrated a fine drive that was capped with a 1-yard TD run for Lake Evans. A 2-point conversion was good from Truelove to #45, making it a 15-0 game.

The offensive clinic continued as the Cats got another score before the first was over when Truelove hit Dane Tyler for a 24-yard TD. Right back at it in the second, Giles found the end zone from 13 yards out to pad the lead up to 29-0. Giles, on his next handoff, just a minute or so later, scampered in from 65 yards virtually untouched.

It was 36-0, and the Warriors finally got their first big play over 10 yards when Alex Freeman hit a wide-open Davey Waller for a 77-yd TD. The extra point was missed, but White County was on the board. Bryan Avila notched a 35-yd FG to get half of that back for the Wildcats. He had a long 44-yd FG as the clock ran out at the half, making it a sizable 42-6 Rabun lead.

A running clock was in place for the entire second half, as neither team put points up in the third or fourth quarters, with mostly younger players on the field.

Giles had three touchdown rushes in the game. Rabun has now won four in a row in the series, and owns a 28-10 record against White.
