A White County School bus with students on board was involved in a minor two-vehicle accident during an afternoon route on Wednesday.

Jonathan Stribling, Assistant Superintendent for White County Schools, said in a statement, that the bus was stopped at a stop sign when the collision occurred.

Stribling said there were no injuries and minor damage to the bus and the passenger car involved.

The Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened at 3:42 PM.

When a trooper arrived, it was determined that a 2023 Subaru Outback was traveling west on SR 115. The driver, 81-year-old Elry McKay, of Cleveland, attempted to make a right turn onto Henry Nix Rd. Mr. McKay, according to GSP, made an improper turn and struck the driver’s side of the White County school bus that was stopped at the stop sign on Henry Nix Rd.

According to Stribling, the bus driver was able to complete the route.

Stribling said, “The students on board adhered to the protocols they had received in prior training, remained calm and collected through the event, and should be commended.”
