It’s been in development for a while, but now a new fire station will soon be built on the northern end of Duncan Bridge Road in White County.

The White County Board of Commissioners gave its approval Monday to a proposal by Precision United, of Cleveland, to construct a three-bay fire department facility for $1,724,909.

Dylan Lee, President of Precision United, told the commission board that tariffs and inflation had inflated the construction cost by $200,000 since they have been putting this project together.

The new fire station will be located at the intersection of Sunny Circle and Duncan Bridge Road. The county purchased the land for the station in 2022, and District 4 Commissioner Craig Bryant said, “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m just thankful that we can pull the project together finally to help out the citizens on that side of town.”

Commission Chairman Travis Turner said no general fund money will be used for this project. “This construction project is solely funded out of our SPLOST dollars. Ladies and gentlemen, that extra penny that we all paid going from six to seven percent. This will be completely paid for by our SPLOST dollars, which is to me a wonderful use of those dollars for capital improvements,” commented Turner.

Lee said they plan to break ground for the project around September 1.

Once built, this will provide the area with better fire coverage and should lead to substantial savings for homeowners on their fire insurance.
