CLEVELAND, Ga. – The work by the White County Board of Education to find the next superintendent of schools is continuing. The search began following Dr. Laurie Burkett’s announcement to retire on September 25.

A news release from the school system on Wednesday said they are working with Pioneer RESA in the search process. Pioneer RESA Director Tim Cochran is consulting with the Georgia Leadership Associates to assist the Board in the search.

The position was advertised state-wide with an application deadline of November 30. According to the school system, fourteen individuals have applied.

The release said that the board conducted an online survey that was completed by over 597 community members and school district staff. The results of the survey will be closely reviewed by all board members and used in selecting the next superintendent.

The board will hold a work session later this month to review all application packets. From that meeting, the Board will select the top individuals who will then be interviewed.

Board Chair Missy Jarrard stated, “The assistance provided by Tim Cochran, Pioneer RESA, and Georgia Leadership Associates has been very beneficial. They are helping us navigate the search process. However, the White County Board of Education fully understands that the selection of the next superintendent is one of our most important responsibilities. The importance of this decision is on the minds of all Board members.”
