It was a statement night for Northeast Georgia football as several local powerhouses closed in on region titles and playoff seeding. From Jefferson and Stephens County staying dominant to an instant classic between Rabun County and Athens Academy, the region’s top teams showed grit, offense, and plenty of heart under the Friday night lights.
#5 Athens Academy 49, #10 Rabun County 46
Athens Academy’s 3-star Georgia Tech commit Keyon Standifer had one of the best games we’ve ever seen for a wide receiver. He scored five total TDs (four receiving, one KOR). Rabun County got three TDs from Lake Evans and two from Reid Giles, while Ty Truelove had a TD run and a pair of 2-point conversions. The Wildcats were in front early, then took a 14-point lead midway through the third before the Spartans stormed back.
Commerce 37, Banks County 3
The wait is over…in a battle of winless teams, the Tigers grabbed their first win of the Lenny Gregory era with a 37-3 final against Banks. That marks now 21 straight wins for Commerce over the Leopards.
#1 Hebron Christian 47, Franklin County 0
The Lions got nothing going against defending state champions Hebron Christian. The Lions and Lions squared off in a game where top-ranked Hebron had no doubt about the outcome.
Habersham Central 38, Apalachee 7
The Raiders took a 38-7 road win over Apalachee, setting up their region championship game at Jackson County next week. Donnie Warren had a 65-yd TD on the first play from scrimmage before a Camden Meads field goal made it 10-0. Warren added an 8-yard TD late in the half as the Raiders ran up a 24-0 lead. Before the break, Paris Wilbanks found Jay Feltus for a TD on fourth down, as it was 38-0 at the break.
#3 Jefferson 31, Cherokee Bluff 10
The Dragons won their fourth in a row with a 38-10 win at Cherokee Bluff. Jefferson will play for the region title against Oconee County next week at home. CJ Hays scored on a 1-yard TD in the first on the opening drive, then Colton Grant threw an 11-yard TD to Caleb Beusse for the 14-0 lead. Darren Pinkard had a big interception, then Taylor McCall kicked a 37-yard field goal in the second. Grant then hit Logan Edmunds on a 28-yard strike for a 24-0 lead before the break. Grant added a rushing TD in the third from a yard out after a 42-yard pass and catch to Edmunds.
Dawson County 31, Lumpkin County 14
The Tigers held their own, going up 17-14 into the half. They built on that with an absolutely shocking 31-14 win over Lumpkin while running away in the second half. Brody Sorensen and Cody McBrayer had big offensive performances with several TDs between the duo. Sorensen also had an early TD pass to Cash Watkins, while Nolan Matthews for Lumpkin had an 80-yard TD run early on.
Stephens County 21, Hart County 10
The Indians grabbed a shocking victory of 21-10 at Hart County. Stephens never trailed and got on the board first on a Branson Stowe 53-yard TD pass to Davon Swinton. Dallas Hague added a rushing score later for a 14-3 lead. Morris Perkins had a 1-yard TD in the third to put the game out of reach.
Towns County 54, Southeast Whitfield 35
The Indians grabbed another key win with a 54-35 score against Southeast Whitfield. It’s the most points since scoring 55 against Hayesville in 2018.
Sonoraville 45, Union County 22
The Panthers had an early lead at 22-14, and led by one at the break before Sonoraville went on a run in the second half. Injuries hit again, as Chetley Cox was hurt and had to leave the contest. He had a TD pass to Haze Burnett of 41 yards, and Bentley Rich added an 8-yard TD run. Brandon Lynch had a pick-six as well.

White County 35, Chestatee 14
The Warriors grabbed a big 35-14 win over Chestatee. Alex Freeman threw an early 56-yard TD to Zach Godfrey, then had a 26-yard TD to Gaines Clark in the second. Easton Drew had a 1-yard TD for the 21-0 lead, and Freeman found Clark for a 54-yard score before the break as White County was up 28-0. Chestatee finally ended its drought, but Savion Anderson had a 7-yard TD to close the scoring for the Warriors.
