A third victim and her unborn child have died following a crash on the Georgia 10 Loop in Athens. The collision occurred early Sunday morning.

Police identified the front passenger of the Toyota Camry involved in the crash as 25-year-old Sara Waldroup of Athens, Georgia. According to an official update, Waldroup “and her 15-week-old fetus succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash.”

The incident began around 12:08 a.m. Sunday when officers received reports of a driver traveling the wrong way on the Inner Loop. Investigators determined that 26-year-old Desiree Browning of Lawrenceville was driving a Kia Seltos in the wrong direction. The Kia struck a Mercedes-Benz and a Ford Expedition before hitting the Toyota Camry head-on near Oglethorpe Avenue.

The driver of the Toyota, 25-year-old Soonhoon Choi of Athens, and the wrong-way driver, Browning, died at the scene.

According to a GoFundMe account setup for Waldroup, Choi is her husband and the donation page creator said he “was a loving husband, a devoted partner, and a bright soul taken far too soon.”

Police provided updated statistics regarding local traffic safety following the deaths of Waldroup and her unborn child.

“This is the 8th fatal crash, resulting in 12 deaths in 2025,” the press release stated. This crash investigation is ongoing.
