Traffic offense leads to discovery of 16 pounds of marijuana

The Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Unit arrested two men following a recent narcotics investigation that led to the seizure of more than 16 pounds of marijuana, two firearms, and cash.
Investigators began looking into Eric Gibbs for distributing narcotics in the Columbus area. During the investigation, Gibbs was seen driving a 2020 Ford Fusion. The Special Operations Unit requested help from the Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Department of Motor Carrier Compliance to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. A Georgia State
Patrol trooper initiated the stop for a traffic offense. During the stop, probable cause was established to search the vehicle.
The search revealed approximately 16 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $74,413 and a handgun. Gibbs was taken into custody.
A search warrant was then executed at Gibbs’ residence, where investigators found an additional 182.8 grams of marijuana (street value $1,828) and another firearm. Justin Harris was arrested at the residence. In total, investigators seized 16.4 pounds of marijuana, two firearms, and $3,885 in U.S. currency.
