Georgia voters have just a few hours left to register or update their voter registration before this fall’s election. The cutoff is the close of business today, October 6.
You can register or check your registration status at mvp.sos.ga.gov.
PSC race
The November 4 ballot includes two statewide races for Georgia’s Public Service Commission, which regulates utilities such as Georgia Power and helps decide how much residents pay for electricity and gas.
In District 2, Democrat Alicia M. Johnson is challenging longtime Republican Commissioner Tim Echols. In District 3, Democrat Peter Hubbard is facing incumbent Commissioner Fitz Johnson, a Republican appointed to the seat in 2021.
Local races
Beyond the PSC races, voters will weigh in on key local issues. Municipal elections are scheduled in cities across the state.
In Northeast Georgia, at least two significant referendums will appear on the ballot. Habersham County voters will decide on a proposed Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) to fund a new jail and other projects. In White County, residents will vote on a proposed Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST), which would add an additional penny-on-the-dollar tax to help offset property taxes.
