From rivalry wins and region titles to postseason breakthroughs, these teams proved what hard work and determination can do.
Football – White County Warriors
Needing a win in the worst way, the Warriors came through in a rivalry win over Dawson County, and in front of the home crowd. It wasn’t always pretty, as the game featured six turnovers. However, Alex Freeman accounted for three TDs, and Gaines Clark and Zach Godfrey all had great performances. White County snaps its losing skid, and now has some momentum with a chance to get a couple more wins the rest of the way.
Softball – Lumpkin County Lady Indians
Lumpkin County wins the 6-AAA Region Championship. The Lady Indians battled all the way to the end, and made preseason dreams a reality. This team is 21-9 overall, and went 14-4 in a really tough region. They won 5-1 against North Hall and 3-2 over White County last week to secure the region.

Volleyball – Tallulah Falls Lady Indians
Tallulah Falls got a jumpstart on the postseason, being in GIAA. The region champs the previous week cruised through the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. This past week, TFS beat GIAA #1-ranked King’s Academy to reach the State Championship, their second in four years. In that, TFS won their opening set against St. Anne Pacelli, and ultimately finished as State Runner-Up after dropping the last three sets.
Boys XC – Union County Panthers
Union’s boys came in 20th at the crowded Pickens & Grinnin’ Invitational. Holden Payne was 10th, Noah James Payne 51st, and Andrew Nushtayev 71st among a crowded field.
Girls XC – Dawson County Lady Tigers
The Lady Tigers came in 6th place overall at the Pickens & Grinnin’ Invitational on Friday, as Hayden Hand was 12th, with Madison Dorsett, Sarah Carrington, Madison Smith, and Ella Carrington all placing in the top-50.
