Throughout the school year, BLITZ Sports shines a spotlight on the high school programs making noise across Northeast Georgia. From the gridiron to the diamond, the court to the course, these teams aren’t just winning games—they’re setting the tone for the rest of their seasons.
Here’s a look at the squads earning Team of the Week honors this week.
Football – Lumpkin County Indians
While several deserve a nod here, Lumpkin County impressed the most. Beating a 5A opponent by five touchdowns from Nolan Matthews was a great sign of what could be coming. The defense hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been enough. The offense continues to find ways to win.
Softball – Dawson County Lady Tigers & Jefferson Lady Dragons
#8 Dawson County went 2-0 this week with wins over Chestatee (15-0) and White County (4-1), moving to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in region play. Meanwhile, #1 Jefferson also won both of its games, taking down #3 Monroe Area 6-2 before a 17-0 thrashing of West Hall. The Lady Dragons are 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the region.
Volleyball – Tallulah Falls Lady Indians
This was a great week for TFS. The Lady Indians started out with dominant 2-0 wins at home against George Walton in region play and against a solid Banks County team. Then came a road victory at #4-ranked Loganville Christian in a 5-set dramatic game. The milestones were in play here, too, as coach Matt Heyl reached 200 career wins, and Margalida Amengual Sanchez recorded a school-record 52 assists in that win over LCA.
Boys XC – Union County Panthers
The Panthers ran to a 4th-place finish at the North Hall Invitational, and were paced by Holden Payne (5th) and Oliver Hillman (27th).
Girls XC – Jefferson Lady Dragons
Jefferson posted a runner-up finish as a team at the Orthowest Invitational. Hannah Schroeder was 7th individually, and Lily Whitmire was 17th in a great run by the team.
