Strong storms impacted North Georgia on Thursday afternoon.
No major damage reports have come from strong storms that impacted the region on Thursday afternoon and evening, but heavy rains and gusty winds were reported over a large area. Rainfall totals varied wildly from place to place, with some areas receiving no precip and other receiving up to 1.5″.
Additional storms and heavy rains are expected on Friday. The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of Northeast Georgia under a marginal (level 1/5) risk for severe storms on Friday afternoon with gusty winds being the main threat.
In addition, we are also under a marginal (level 1/4) risk for flash flooding with the South Carolina border area on the edge of a slight (level 2/4) risk.
More rain is likely on Saturday along with some MUCH cooler temperatures as a wedge front pushes into the region.
