Smiths Station man killed after dispute with friend

Update: Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said Jeremy Chandler Wiggins is facing a single charge of murder. The domestic violence charge was entered into the booking system in error, and the following report has been corrected:

A Smiths Station, Alabama man was shot and killed in an apparent dispute Sunday, October 19,2025. 34-year-old Anthony Hodge was allegedly shot by 20-year-old Jeremy Chandler Wiggins.  The incident happened at the victim’s residence at Sawyers Mobile Home Park on Lee Road 246.

Hodge was transported to a nearby hospital where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Law enforcement arrested Wiggins at a local grocery store, and he was booked in the Lee County Jail. Wiggins, of Phenix City is charged with Murder and is currently being held without bond. According to a press release from the Lee County Sheriff’s department the two men were acquaintances. Sheriff Jones said the families of the two men also know each other and investigators are working to determine what exactly prompted the shooting.
