The White County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents about some scams that are currently making the rounds.

The sheriff’s office said some people are receiving calls misrepresented as being from the White County Clerk of Court. According to investigators, scammers have spoofed the clerk’s phone number and are telling people they must go to Gainesville to pay money to avoid a warrant.

The sheriff’s office warns, “This is a scam.”

Additionally, people are receiving a text message claiming to be from the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles. The sheriff’s office says the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles does not exist. In Georgia, the agency is called the Department of Driver Services or the Department of Revenue – Motor Vehicle Division.

If you happen to receive any notices of this type, please don’t click on any links or reply, the sheriff’s office urges. They instruct those targeted by such scams to “Delete the message.”
