State Patrol identifies woman injured in pedestrian crash in Cornelia

A Cornelia woman was injured early Thursday morning after being struck by a pickup truck on Level Grove Road.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened on August 14 at approximately 6:40 a.m. Investigators say Tracy Saunders, 58, of Cornelia, was walking north across Level Grove Road when she “darted across the roadway in front of traffic.”

A Toyota Tacoma, driven by Lisa Taylor, 55, of Alto, was traveling west on Level Grove Road at the time. The front of the truck struck Saunders in the westbound lane.

Cornelia Police, Cornelia Fire, and Habersham EMS responded to the scene at Level Grove Road and BC Grant Road. Due to the nature of the accident, the Georgia State Patrol was called in to investigate.

Corneila Police Chief Jonathan Roberts said Saunders sustained “numerous injuries.” Habersham EMS transported her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where she underwent surgery.

Morning traffic on Level Grove Road near Quality Foods was detoured while state troopers investigated the crash and crews cleared the scene.
