An early morning fire damaged a Krystal restaurant in Oakwood early Monday morning, prompting a temporary road closure as firefighters worked to control the blaze, according to Hall County Fire Rescue.
Crews were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 to the fast-food restaurant on Mundy Mill Road after receiving reports of a commercial fire. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the roof. A search of the building confirmed it was empty.
Firefighters located an HVAC unit fully involved above the kitchen area and brought the bulk of the fire under control within 20 minutes of the 911 call. No injuries were reported, and remaining hot spots were later extinguished.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the westbound lanes of Mundy Mill Road between Atlanta Highway and I-985 were temporarily closed overnight due to the fire response. Deputies assisted Oakwood Police with traffic control. All lanes reopened around 4:26 a.m., except for the right turn lane into the restaurant.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office.
