Nick Alex’s congressional campaign made a stop in Clarkesville on Wednesday as part of a districtwide tour aimed at hearing directly from voters. About 50 people attended the drop-in event at the Habersham Recreation Department, where Alex outlined his key priorities and fielded questions from voters.
Alex is running as a Democrat for the 9th District seat currently held by Republican Andrew Clyde. The Rabun County resident and self-described “citizen candidate” laid out his platform. He focused on three main issues: immigration, democracy, and affordability.

On immigration, Alex said that he, like Clyde, supports removing criminal illegal aliens from the country, but stressed that law-abiding immigrants should not be “snatched off the streets” by federal immigration authorities. He also supports creating a pathway to citizenship for those who contribute peacefully to their communities.
Alex also stressed the importance of protecting democratic institutions, saying he wants to restore the country’s democratic ideals to their former strength.
On economic issues, Alex called for policies that make everyday life more affordable. He expressed concern over inflation and the impact of Medicaid means-testing, which he believes could harm people’s health and survival. He wants to work to make people’s lives “affordable again,” he told the crowd.
Alex’s next campaign stop is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, at the Gainesville Civic Center’s Chattahoochee Room from 6 to 8 p.m. The Civic Center is located at 830 Green Street NE.
