
Nancy Charlotte Dixon Anderson, 87, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Nancy is survived by her three children, Wendy Anderson Martin of Clarkesville, GA; Laurie (Craig) Shufeldt of Seneca, SC; and David M. (Heather) Anderson of Macon, GA; five grandchildren, Amanda Mae Martin, Bryan Robin Martin, Jr., Zoe Martin, Petty Officer Miles Anderson and Finn Anderson; and one step-grandchild, Josh Davis. She is also survived by her sister, Ellen Dixon Mooneyham, along with numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Clarkesville, GA, Nancy graduated from North Habersham High School. She attended Piedmont College, later graduating magna cum laude from Brenau University, and went on to earn her Master of Education from the University of Georgia. Nancy served as a librarian at Brenau University from 1979 to 1987 and then devoted 26 years to Gordon State College as Director of the Hightower Library, retiring with the distinguished title of Professor Emeritus.
Nancy’s life was deeply rooted in her faith and her church communities. She was an active member of Gainesville Presbyterian Church, where she directed Children’s Church and sang in the choir. She later joined the choir at Thomaston Presbyterian Church and served as both elder and organist at Barnesville Presbyterian Church.
Throughout her life, Nancy cultivated deep and lasting friendships. She had a remarkable ability to form meaningful connections, and she cherished the multitude of friends she made in every chapter of her life. Whether through her church, her community work, or her many interests, Nancy nurtured relationships with warmth, loyalty, and genuine care. Her friends were a treasured source of joy, laughter, and companionship.
Throughout her life, Nancy was dedicated to service and community involvement. In Gainesville, while raising her three children, she served as President of the Newcomers Club and the Phoenix Society and led the volunteer program for the Mental Health Center associated with Northeast Georgia Medical Center. During her years in Barnesville, she served more than 20 years on the MacIntosh Community Service Board and was active in the Women’s Club, Barnesville Garden Club, Friends of the Library, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She founded a local book club and completed the Leadership Lamar program.
Nancy lived a rich and purposeful life filled with faith, family, service, and a love of music, reading, gardening, and travel. Her devotion was always to God, her family, and her friends—steadfastly in that order.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Barnesville–Lamar County Friends of the Library, 401 Thomaston Street, Barnesville, GA 39204.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, November 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Clarkesville Presbyterian Church, 181 Jefferson Street, Clarkesville, GA 30523.
