Eastanollee man dies days after Big A Road wreck

TOCCOA, Ga. — A Stephens County man has died from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle crash on Big A Road last week. 73-year-old Robert Murrah of Eastanollee died from his injuries on November 30, according to Stephens County Deputy Coroner Lee Woody.

Murrah was fatally injured in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, at the intersection of Big A Road (GA 17 ALT) and Oak Valley Road. Murrah was airlifted from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he later died.

EMS transported a second patient by ambulance to the hospital.

“Myself and Coroner Kyle Johnson extend our condolences to Mr. Murrah’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Woody said.

Crash details

According to the Georgia State Patrol crash report, a Ford Transit was traveling south on Oak Valley Road when it attempted to cross GA 17 ALT. The driver failed to yield and pulled into the path of two eastbound vehicles — a Jeep Wrangler in the right lane and a Lincoln MKC in the left lane.

The Ford struck the Jeep on the driver’s side. Moments later, the Lincoln hit the Ford. After impact, the Ford came to a stop across the eastbound lanes. The Jeep hit a curb, and overturned, ejecting Murrah.

First responders thanked bystanders who stopped to help the victims before emergency crews arrived.

The State Patrol has not released the other drivers’ names and has not said whether charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation by GSP Post 7 Toccoa.

Murrah is one of at least two Northeast Georgians killed in automobile accidents over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The other, 32-year-old Christopher Parker, died Friday night, Nov. 28, in a head-on collision on Highway 115 in Murrayville.
