STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. — A 25-year-old Toccoa man was taken to the hospital after a fiery motorcycle crash Monday afternoon on Highway 17 in Stephens County.

Authorities say the wreck happened near Whispering Pines Drive at 2:01 p.m. on Sept. 15. A Kawasaki motorcycle was headed north when, for reasons still under investigation, the rider lost control. The driver, Johnathan Williams, was thrown from the bike as it skidded down the roadway. The motorcycle came to rest in the right northbound lane, where it erupted in flames.

The Georgia State Patrol said Williams sustained minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with Stephens County fire and EMS crews, responded to the scene. Emergency personnel closed both northbound lanes and one southbound lane while they put out the fire and cleared the wreckage. The lanes were reopened within an hour.
