A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stabbing his brother and fleeing into the woods near a Royston motel.

Royston Police responded to a call at the Days Inn on Hartwell Street around 6 p.m. on August 6. When officers arrived, they found 42-year-old Travis John Hill with a laceration to his arm. He told police he had been stabbed by his brother, 39-year-old Christopher Lee Hill, who had run from the scene, police said.

Officers from Royston PD, Hart County Sheriff’s Office, and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office launched a coordinated search of the area. Royston Firefighter Brady Roberts assisted by deploying a heat-detecting drone.

After a short search with the drone, officers located Hill and took him into custody without incident. They transported him to the Hart County Detention Center.

Hill is charged with aggravated assault (domestic violence), possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and obstruction.

The Royston Police Department released a statement extending its gratitude to the responding agencies and personnel.

“With their help we were able to render aid to the victim and locate a dangerous suspect within minutes,” the department said.
