CORNELIA, Ga. — A Baldwin Police K-9 team helped Cornelia officers arrest a man accused of assaulting a woman after a 911 hang-up call. The dropped call led police to an apartment on Sunshine Circle on Friday morning, October 18.
Police said they arrived to find an open door and a woman with visible injuries who needed medical care. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Christopher Harley of Cornelia, had fled on foot. Cornelia requested mutual aid from Baldwin’s K-9 unit to track him.
Corporal John Groves and K-9 Hulk followed a trail into a large patch of kudzu. After repeated commands for Harley to show himself, he ran into a creek and refused to comply, according to police. K-9 Hulk was deployed and apprehended Harley a short distance away in the water. Officers took him into custody without further incident.
Habersham County EMS evaluated and treated both the victim and Harley at the scene. Harley, who had minor injuries, was then booked into the Habersham County Detention Center.
Police charged Harley with aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects, and obstruction of law enforcement.
