TOCCOA, Ga. — A joint law enforcement operation Monday afternoon resulted in the capture of a man wanted in connection with a recent stabbing in Toccoa.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit, the GBI Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, and the FBI North Georgia Major Offenders Task Force arrested 37-year-old Cameron Deuntray Gholston, also known as Cameron Hunter, after a brief chase on Big A Road.
Authorities say a concerned citizen spotted Gholston walking near Walgreens and alerted investigators. Around 1:47 p.m. on September 15, officers attempted to take him into custody near Northeast Georgia Bank and Quality Inn. Gholston initially complied but pulled away during the arrest, fleeing across Big A Road with one cuff still attached to his wrist, the sheriff’s office said.

Law enforcement quickly established a perimeter and located Gholston hiding in a wooded area behind CVS. He surrendered without further incident and was transported to the Stephens County Jail.
In addition to his existing aggravated assault warrant tied to an August stabbing on Hill Place, Gholston now faces charges of felony escape, two counts of felony obstruction, and a federal probation violation.
Officials credit the quick coordination between local, state, and federal agencies — with support from the Toccoa Police Department — for safely apprehending Gholston.
