CORNELIA, Ga. — New details have emerged about a crash last Saturday that sent two people to the hospital and snapped a utility pole in Cornelia.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers were called at 3:25 p.m. October 25 to the intersection of State Route 105 and VFW Post Road. Investigators say the Ford Escape involved in the wreck had been part of an earlier crash at Captain D’s. After that initial collision, the SUV continued west, crossed SR 105, and left the road.

The Ford struck a Windstream communications box, a Georgia Power utility pole, and two roadside business signs before coming to an uncontrolled stop against the pole. The impact snapped the pole and knocked out power to nearby businesses as crews worked to make repairs.

Troopers suspect the driver suffered a medical emergency before the SUV left the roadway. Both the driver and a passenger were hurt in the crash and were transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Cornelia Police also responded to the scene. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved.

Now Habersham first reported the incident shortly after it happened. We will provide additional updates as they become available.
