ALTO — Firefighters quickly contained a house fire Friday afternoon that damaged a home on Old Highway 441 North.

According to Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols, firefighters responded to the blaze around 12:47 p.m. on September 26 at 4336 Old Highway 441 North. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the single-family residence. Nichols says firefighters launched an “aggressive interior attack” and were able to keep the flames contained to the room where the fire started.

The home sustained moderate damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though Nichols said “an accidental fire can’t be ruled out.”

The residents were home when the fire broke out, but escaped without injury. Firefighters cleared the scene within an hour.

The American Red Cross has been called in to assist the displaced family.
