Stephens County won 19 games and made the Elite 8 back in 2020-21. Since then, the program has combined to win 12 games in four seasons, including four in back-to-back years. A new era begins as coach Tess Wright takes the reins, moving over from Lumpkin County.
PRESEASON INFO
2024-25 Record: 4-22; No Playoffs
Head Coach: Tess Wright (1st Season)
Returning Starters: 3
Key Departures: “We graduated some standout players last year who contributed greatly, and we’ll miss their leadership and production,” adds Wright.
Key Players: Our three returning starters will play an important role for us this year. We also have other returners who didn’t start last season but are expected to step into bigger roles. In addition, several young players will gain valuable varsity experience this year, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they grow into their roles throughout the season.”
Offense: “We’ll focus on a balanced offensive approach that emphasizes movement, sharing the ball, and creating opportunities for each other.”
Strengths: “Our biggest strengths will be our toughness, work ethic, and commitment to each other. This group has a great attitude and is ready to put in the work every single day.”
Biggest Challenges: “With so many new faces and shifting roles, our biggest challenge will be developing team chemistry and gaining valuable varsity experience. It will take time, but we’re confident in the process and the growth it will bring.”
“Our focus is not on outcomes, but on the process,” states Wright. “We want to create a team environment where players put themselves third and serve others first. This will be a blue-collar team that never takes plays off. Effort and improvement, both individually and as a team, are non-negotiable.”
