FLOWERY BRANCH — A Gainesville woman was shot and killed Saturday afternoon at a Flowery Branch home, and the gunman then fatally shot himself, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
A nine-year-old girl was inside the house during the violence but was not physically hurt.
Deputies were called to the residence in the 5400 block of Bushnell Court just before 3 p.m. Saturday, November 1. When they arrived, they found the 50-year-old woman dead at the doorway of the home. The 51-year-old suspected shooter was found dead in the basement.
Investigators say the child witnessed the shooting and fled to an upstairs bedroom closet. She contacted a friend through FaceTime. The friend alerted her parents, who then called 911.
The sheriff’s office says the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The man died from a single self-inflicted gunshot.
Deputies and criminal investigators secured the scene and began notifying next of kin. Officials say they are withholding the names of those involved until out-of-state family members can be reached.
The Department of Family and Children’s Services assisted at the scene. The child was released into the care of a relative.
Authorities say the investigation remains active.
