CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Habersham County Sheriff’s Office investigators have charged a Hall County man with false imprisonment and drug possession following a reported “rolling domestic violence” incident that occurred Monday afternoon.
Hayward Eugene Fuller, 65, of Gainesville, was arrested outside a business on Toccoa Highway near the Tom Arrendale Interchange. He faces charges of false imprisonment and possession of methamphetamine.
Details of the incident
Deputies were dispatched just after 5 p.m. Monday following an initial 9-1-1 call reporting a carjacking in the area. Investigators later clarified that the carjacking report stemmed from confusion on the part of the uninvolved caller.
The subsequent investigation revealed a female victim inside Fuller’s vehicle was being held against her will. An altercation reportedly took place between Fuller and the victim as they traveled down Toccoa Highway.
The incident came to a head when the vehicle stopped at a local business. Fuller exited the vehicle, and the female victim immediately moved into the driver’s seat and fled. Both individuals contacted 9-1-1 shortly thereafter.
Miscommunication and investigation
Sheriff’s investigators addressed confusion regarding the nature of the injuries. One 9-1-1 caller reported a possible stabbing. This was later attributed to an older laceration on Fuller’s arm that had reopened and began to bleed during the altercation.
Deputies, along with other area law enforcement, initially responded to the first business and then located the female victim and the vehicle at a second nearby business.
During the investigation, a K-9 unit located a quantity of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
Fuller was taken into custody and transported to the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville, where he remained as of Tuesday afternoon.
