GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) is once again supporting burn survivors through the annual Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation Boot Drive.

On three Fridays — September 19, September 26, and October 3 — HCFR firefighters will be at locations across Hall County collecting donations with boots in hand.

Every dollar raised goes directly to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, said HCFR spokesperson Kimberlie Ledsinger. The foundation provides financial help to burn survivors, supports specialized burn centers, funds fire and life safety education, and hosts Camp Oo-U-La.

Camp Oo-U-La is a summer camp for children ages 7 to 17 who have experienced serious burn injuries. The camp is described as “fun with a purpose.” It gives children a safe and encouraging place to heal. They can connect with others who share similar experiences and learn ways to cope with their recovery.

‘An incredible impact’

Hall County Fire Marshal Michael Vieira said the community’s generosity has already made a tremendous impact.

“I am very proud of the community I serve. Hall County citizens and visitors have graciously donated over $630,000 to the Burn Foundation Boot Drive since 2016. That’s an incredible impact that has changed many lives,” Vieira said.

The Boot Drive is a statewide tradition, with fire departments competing to raise the most funds. HCFR held the top fundraising spot for eight straight years, missing first place in 2024 by just $3,000.

“I believe the people of our community have a caring heart and they want to help others, and donating to the Boot Drive is one way to do that,” Vieira added. “Generosity is a blessing. It feels good to be a cheerful giver and to donate to a cause that’s bigger than yourself.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to look for HCFR firefighters on the designated Fridays or donate directly at their local fire station or at the Hall County Fire Rescue Headquarters, located at 470 Crescent Drive in Gainesville.

Together, the department hopes to continue bringing hope, healing, and joy to burn survivors across the state.
