CORNELIA, Ga. — Habersham County residents are getting their first opportunity to learn more about the proposed Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST VIII) during a town hall meeting at the Cornelia Community House.

The meeting, which began at 6 p.m., will provide information about the county’s plans for SPLOST revenue, which helps fund capital projects without raising property taxes. County officials said the session is also a chance for residents to ask questions and share feedback on the tax, which will appear on the ballot in November.

“SPLOST is a key tool for funding infrastructure and development projects that impact every community in Habersham,” county leaders said in announcing the meeting. “We want to hear from you.”

Two additional town halls are scheduled for Oct. 6 at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville, at noon and again at 6 p.m.
