For more than 100 days this summer, Habersham County deputies worked to keep local roads safe—and it paid off. The sheriff’s office reports zero traffic fatalities during the 2025 “100 Days of Summer HEAT” traffic enforcement campaign.
From May 19 through September 2, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) joined forces with the Georgia State Patrol and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Deputies with the Special Operations H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) Unit and Patrol Division targeted dangerous driving behaviors, including speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and failure to wear seatbelts.
The campaign led to a drop in serious injury crashes compared to previous years.
“We thank safe drivers for wearing seatbelts, securing children in proper child safety seats, and deciding on the safe choice of not participating in impaired driving, speeding, and distracted driving,” said Sheriff Robin Krockum. He said the sheriff’s office’s goal of voluntary compliance to lawful safe driving “is unwavering.”

100 Days of Summer HEAT by the numbers
During the 100-day-long traffic enforcement operation, Habersham County deputies made thousands of traffic contacts, reinforcing the importance of safe driving. Between May 19 and Sept. 2, they recorded nearly 3,000 traffic violations including:
| Violation | Number |
|---|---|
| Reckless driving arrests | 9 |
| DUI arrests | 78 |
| Distracted driving & hands-free violations | 190 |
| Seatbelt & child safety violations | 201 |
| Speeding violations | 1,164 |
| Other traffic violations | 1,284 |
| Total violations | 2,926 |
The sheriff’s office says its focus on traffic safety will continue year-round.
