
The GHSA announced on Monday evening the new classifications for the 2026-28 cycle. Schools have until noon on November 9 to appeal.
Below are the classifications assigned for our local schools in the BLITZ coverage area (ordered from highest class to lowest).
CLASS 6A
Habersham Central: Habersham moves up to 6A from 5A, with enrollment at 2,058.
CLASS 5A
Jefferson: The Dragons move up from 3A to 5A, making a large leap two classifications. 1,352 is the enrollment.
CLASS 4A
Dawson County: The Tigers move up from 3A to 4A, with an enrollment at 1,216.
White County: With an enrollment at 1,110, White County moves up from 3A.
CLASS 3A
Stephens County: Stephens County rises from 2A to 3A, with enrollment at 1,102.
Lumpkin County: The Indians remain in 3A, with enrollment at 1,048.
Franklin County: The Lions move up from 2A to 3A, with enrollment set at 981.
Union County: With enrollment at 871, Union County goes up from 2A to 3A.
CLASS 2A
Banks County: The Leopards go from 1A DI to 2A, and have 787 students.
Commerce: At 567 enrollment, the Tigers move from 1A DI to 2A.
Rabun County: With 614 enrollment, Rabun County is in 2A, up from 1A DI.
CLASS 1A
Towns County: The Indians stay in 1A with enrollment at 269.
