The Week Six Game of the Week takes us to Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium in Tiger for a second time this year.
Rabun County High School will honor one of its former standout athletes when the Wildcats retire Gunner Stockton’s No. 14 football jersey ahead of their homecoming game against Banks County.
The ceremony is set for 7 p.m., Sept. 19, just before kickoff at Frank Snyder Stadium. Stockton, now a redshirt junior quarterback at the University of Georgia, is expected to be on hand for the ceremony.
RELATED
RABUN COUNTY
The Wildcats are 4-0 for the first time since 2022. The way Rabun County, a top-5 ranked team, is doing it is the great part. Aside from their one 49-42 win, they’ve allowed just one touchdown combined in the other three victories. Ty Truelove has yet to throw a pick, and Reid Giles is just a man among boys. Everything seems to be clicking perfectly right now.
BANKS COUNTY
The opposite of 4-0 is 0-4. Meet the Leopards, but there’s more than meets the eye here. Banks was outscored 86-21 in the first two games. The last two though, with Mark Hollars truly over it all, the Leopards have held their own with a 10-point loss at Dawson County and a 3-point loss to top-10 ranked Cherokee Bluff. There’s a definite difference. A new QB emerged recently, allowing Lane Morris to be used in other ways, and Davian Knox is quietly having a fantastic season.

HOW THEY STACK UP
We typically make a case for both, with our official pick linked below. Let’s begin with the Wildcats. With a scoring average of 35, and allowing just over 12 per game, Rabun County is heavily favored here, and it weighs nothing whether they were at home or away. On paper, in veteran leadership, etc, Rabun County is the #4-ranked team for a reason. Just staying true to form gives them a win here. Banks County would HAVE to approach this one like last week against Cherokee Bluff – and then some. That means not caring at all about Rabun’s logo on the other side, or how much talent they have. They have to be aggressive, a little bit lucky, a lot disciplined, and score, score, score.
STATS
For Rabun, we’ve now witnessed 69 games, with this one marking #70. In those, the Wildcats have gone 52-17. Meanwhile, we’ve caught Banks County in 16 total games over the years, and the Leopards are 3-13 in those.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
This matchup is old – dating back to 1968. Rabun County easily holds the series lead at 23-10. The Cats won the first three ever, and have won each of the last seven in a row with a combined whopping score of 376-35. To put that in perspective, if you combined Banks County’s points (35) over the past seven meetings going back to 2016, only one game (2024) would that have been enough to beat Rabun. The Leopards did win five in a row from 2007-2011 in the series, but it’s largely been owned by Rabun.
