Gainesville police arrest suspect in attempted bank robbery

GAINESVILLE, Ga.- A man is in custody after Gainesville police stopped a robbery in progress Thursday afternoon at a Wells Fargo branch on Browns Bridge Road.

Officers responded shortly before noon to a report of an active robbery at the bank, according to the Gainesville Police Department. When they arrived, the encountered the suspect inside and took him into custody without incident.

Police say the quick arrest prevented the robbery form being carried out.

Detectives remained on the scene Thursday afternoon collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. The FBI’s Atlanta field office is assisting in the investigation, which is standard protocol for bank robbery cases.

The suspects name has not yet been released, and charges are pending.
