A Baldwin woman was hospitalized Sunday night after firefighters pulled her from a burning apartment at Manor Place Apartments.
Cousin called for help
Habersham County E-911 records show the fire was reported shortly after 10 p.m. on September 7. The caller’s cousin told dispatchers the woman had been sick and that her apartment was filling with smoke. Moments later, she reported the oven was stuck on 450 degrees and would not turn off.
When the first unit arrived, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the apartment. A Baldwin Fire Department lieutenant entered the residence, found the woman inside, and carried her to safety. Habersham EMS transported her non-emergently to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for evaluation.
A second patient, discovered upstairs experiencing medical issues, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham.
Quick action prevents tragedy
Crews confirmed active flames inside the apartment and called in law enforcement to assist with evacuations. The fire was quickly extinguished, and responders worked to clear smoke from the building.
The Baldwin, Cornelia, and Habersham County fire departments, along with local police, coordinated efforts to contain the blaze and protect residents. Baldwin fire officials credited the teamwork with preventing what could have been “a tragedy.”
The call log shows the scene was cleared just before midnight.
