STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. — Multiple fire crews spent hours Saturday night battling a commercial fire on Highway 123.

The first call came in shortly after 9 p.m. for reports of a commercial structure fire in the 2300 block of Hwy. 123, east of Toccoa. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from a large pile of scrap debris in a side lot next to the building. The fire did not spread to the structure itself but did damage outside equipment, officials said.

By 9:09 p.m., crews from Toccoa Fire, Carnes Creek Fire, Big Smith Fire, and Shiloh Fire were on scene, along with Stephens County EMS, Toccoa Police, and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said the fire was contained, but crews remained at the site to extinguish hotspots.

Highway 123 was closed at East Tugalo for several hours while a water supply line stretched across the roadway.

The incident was declared under control just after 11 p.m., and all units were released from the scene. No injuries were reported.
