TOCCOA, Ga. — A residential fire shut down a portion of West Currahee Street on Friday as multiple agencies responded, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies, city and county fire crews, Stephens County EMS and Georgia Power were called to the scene between Nancy Lane and Pineview Road, where a home caught fire and first responders stretched a hose across the roadway. No injuries were reported.
Both lanes were closed for more than an hour as crews worked the scene and motorists were rerouted. Southbound drivers were directed to Carnes Creek Road, while northbound traffic was diverted to Easy Street.
By 1:40 p.m., officials said the road had reopened, though drivers were urged to use caution because crews remained in the area.
Authorities used the incident to remind residents to check their smoke detectors and contact local fire services if they need one installed. They also urged caution with outdoor burning amid high winds, low humidity and shifting temperatures.
