DEMOREST, GA — The Demorest City Council will tackle a wide slate of policy, planning and personnel items Tuesday evening during a combined work session and regular meeting at the Demorest Municipal Conference Center. The work session begins Dec. 2 at 6 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
Special-use request leads regular meeting agenda
The council will hold a public hearing on a request from David Cook to allow a second accessory dwelling unit at 331 Pine Avenue. The R-1 zoned property is .44 acres and located within the Demorest 05 tax district. City staff have made the plans available for review at City Hall, and residents will have the opportunity to speak during the hearing.
DDA resignation, water rates and charter amendments
During both the work session and meeting, officials will discuss and vote on whether to accept the resignation of Downtown Development Authority member Jamie Allred. The vacancy will require future appointment by the council.
Water rates for 2026 are also on the agenda. The council will review proposed adjustments and may vote on them Tuesday evening.
Another significant item is the first reading of home rule amendments to the city charter, which will be discussed at 6 p.m. before moving to consideration during the 7 p.m. meeting.
City ordinance, emergency operations and department matters
The council is expected to take up a second reading of amendments to Section 6-19 of the city’s code governing temporary special event licenses. Updates to the Local Emergency Operations Plan and a resolution formally adopting those changes are also scheduled for discussion and a vote.
Several administrative and departmental matters will follow, including:
• Declaring a 2008 Ford SRW Super Duty as surplus
• Considering a new probation services contract
• Reviewing the city manager’s report and monthly financials
Proclamation and community recognitions
Council members will issue a proclamation honoring the 25th anniversary of Demorest Elementary School. A presentation on the Wreaths Across America program by Barry Church is also included in the agenda.
