Next week is Georgia Cities Week. The city of Demorest has announced several events as part of celebrating Georgia cities.

Georgia Cities Week begins on Sunday April 21 and will run through Saturday April 27.

Demorest will begin their events on Sunday April 21 with an ice cream social and will culminate the week on Saturday April 27 with a city clean-up event.

    The schedule of events

    • Sunday April 21- An ice cream social will be held at the Demorest Fire Department from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    • Monday April 22- The City Council will hold a special called Land Use meeting in the Municipal Conference Center at 6:00 p.m.
    • Tuesday April 23- The city will hold a 4th of July T-shirt design competition at Wilbanks Middle School.
    • Wednesday April 24- The city will hold a Career Pathways Day held at Mountain Ed at 5:00 p.m.
    • Thursday April 25- The city will hold a Touch-a-Truck event at Demorest Springs Park from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
    • Friday April 26- Coffee with the Chiefs will be held at Farmhouse Coffee from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
    • Saturday April 27- The city will hold a city clean-up event from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Those wishing to participate in cleaning up the city will meet at the Fire Department basement.

Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) sponsors Georgia Cities Week each year, typically in April. This year will be the 25th anniversary of the event.

According to GMA, this is an opportunity for cities to celebrate community achievements and recognize volunteers and city employees. It is an opportunity to share information about services cities provide residents. That includes a look into city operations and how it positively impacts residents’ quality of life.

It also gives the city an opportunity to highlight community projects and infrastructure enhancements. With the events scheduled throughout the week, it will give residents of Demorest an opportunity to connect with one another as well as the city’s elected officials, management, and staff.
