DEMOREST, Ga. — The City of Demorest has amended the agenda for its special called meeting on Tuesday, October 21, to include several new items for discussion.
According to city officials, council members will now consider and possibly approve additional site plans for City Hall renovations and parking. Other items to be discussed include renewal of a certificate of deposit at Traditions Bank and a resolution for the Land Water Conservation Fund grant.
Public budget hearing
The meeting will also include a public hearing at 5 p.m. on the city’s proposed fiscal year 2026 budget and millage rate. The hearing will be held at the Demorest Municipal Conference Center, 250 Alabama St.
This marks the second of three opportunities for residents to share feedback on the city’s annual operating and capital budget. A final hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
City officials have tentatively adopted a millage rate of 7.16 mills, which represents an 8.6% increase in property taxes. Without the increase, the millage rate would remain at 6.593 mills.
According to city documents, the proposed change would raise annual property taxes by about $28 for a homestead property valued at $175,000 and roughly $40 for non-homestead property of the same value.
The council will take public comments during the meeting and may enter executive session before adjourning.
