City leaders are inviting the public to take part in an in-depth conversation about Cornelia’s housing future during a special symposium on Tuesday, September 23.

Presented by the Georgia Conservancy, the Cornelia Housing Symposium will share the results of months of research into the city’s current and future housing needs. The presentation, titled “Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future: A Data Analysis About the Current and Future Housing Needs of Cornelia,” will include visual concepts for potential infill development and a Q&A session.

Cornelia Community Development Director Jessie Owensby said the event marks the culmination of six months of intensive work.

“We have spent the last six months doing extensive research, public comment, surveys, town hall meetings, surveying existing homes, identifying infill properties, and data analysis,” Owensby said. “This will be the presentation of all of that cumulative data to help the public understand what we have, what we need, what we want, where we need it, where we want it, how much it costs, and how much we can pay for it, all in terms of housing.”

Owensby stressed that the event is open to everyone, not just Cornelia residents.

“We invite everyone who is interested in housing to come for this presentation. We would love for people throughout Habersham County to attend,” she said. “It’s incredibly important that our citizens understand what we are doing and why we are doing it.”

The symposium is scheduled for 6 p.m. on September 23 at the Cornelia Community House at 601 Wyly Street.
