Cleveland man dies after wreck on GA 105 in Demorest

DEMOREST, Ga. — A Cleveland man died Saturday, hours after his vehicle was rear-ended on Georgia Highway 105/Cannon Bridge Road in Demorest.

According to authorities, the wreck happened around 1:15 p.m. on October 25 at the intersection of GA 105 and Cap Fry Road. State troopers say 71-year-old Arlen Ross Garrett of Cleveland was driving a Dodge Journey and had stopped to make a left-hand turn onto Cap Fry Road when his vehicle was struck from behind by a Ford F-150.

Three Habersham County Emergency Services ambulances transported Garrett and two others to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire confirmed that Garrett died several hours later from his injuries.

The names and conditions of the other two patients have not been released. It is unclear whether any charges have been filed.

Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Post 7 in Toccoa is investigating the crash. GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
