CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Rosie Cantrell has been named Clarkesville’s new Main Street director, bringing a background in public history, grant writing and historic preservation to the role focused on downtown revitalization.
City Manager Keith Dickerson announced Cantrell’s appointment during Monday’s City Council meeting. She succeeds Colby Moore in the position.
After the meeting, Cantrell told Now Habersham her experience with the city made the transition a natural one. She previously worked for the city as a museum assistant, where her responsibilities included grant writing and grant compliance.
“Of course grant work ties right into my new role with Main Street,” Cantrell said.
Cantrell holds a master’s degree in public history, a credential she said closely aligns with the mission of the Main Street program.
“The Main Street program is rooted in historic preservation,” she said. “That brought me back to my passion and my interest in preservation and revitalization through a historical lens, so that was right up my alley.”
She said she is looking forward to stepping into the position and continuing the city’s downtown programming and development efforts.
“I’m excited to transition into this new role,” Cantrell said.
Cantrell recently delivered her first Main Street report to the council, highlighting successful December events, including Downtown Clarkesville Christmas and the city’s annual candlelight Christmas walk.
Looking ahead, Cantrell said the next Main Street event, Clarkesville Mardi Gras, is scheduled for March 7.
