A Canon man is facing multiple felony charges after leading deputies on two separate foot pursuits during a traffic stop Friday evening.

According to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 7:25 p.m. on May 23 when a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Marsh Lane near the intersection of Royston Highway. Police say the driver, identified as 44-year-old Codney Jermaine Alexander of Canon, was found to have an active arrest warrant.

When asked to step out of the vehicle, Alexander allegedly fled on foot. A deputy pursued and used a taser to subdue him, ultimately taking him into custody in a nearby wooded area.

During the chase, according to authorities, the deputy witnessed Alexander discard a small bag. Deputies later recovered the bag, which allegedly contained over 38 grams of methamphetamine, more than 12 grams of crack cocaine and other drug-related items.

While seated in the back of a patrol vehicle with handcuffs on, Alexander allegedly managed to manipulate the rear window, escape from the car and flee a second time. Deputies quickly apprehended him again without further incident.

Alexander was arrested and is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, tampering with evidence, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, escape and theft by taking. He is currently being held at the Hart County Detention Center.
