Boil water advisory issued for part of Baldwin after valve break

BALDWIN, Ga. — The Baldwin has issued a boil water advisory for customers in the Highland Pointe subdivision after a water valve break disrupted service in the area.

City officials said the break occurred near Highland Pointe Circle and Wilbanks Road, leading to low water pressure or outages for some customers. The advisory was issued as a precaution because reduced water pressure can increase the risk of microbial contamination.

Residents who experienced low water pressure or a water outage are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking and food preparation.

To properly boil tap water, officials recommend heating water until it reaches a rolling boil, continuing to boil it for one minute, then allowing it to cool before use.

According to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing and preparing food, making ice, preparing baby formula and providing drinking water for pets. Other household uses, such as washing clothes and washing dishes, may be done without boiling water if performed properly.

The advisory will remain in effect until the City of Baldwin Water System completes testing and determines the water is safe. Customers will be notified when the advisory is lifted.

Once the advisory ends, residents should flush all faucets for at least two minutes before using tap water for drinking or food preparation.

Customers with questions may contact the City of Baldwin Water Department.
