Bay Avenue now closes late weekend nights

Bay Avenue

Columbus Police have responded to a stunning Uptown Columbus murder by closing Bay Avenue at 11 p.m. on weekend nights. Police spokesperson Brittany Santiago said it was a joint decision between law enforcement and local business owners. One block of Bay Avenue between 11th and 12th became a place for teenagers to congregate after football games and other events. “If the businesses are closed, what are they doing back there?” Santiago asked rhetorically.

The move by police comes after 18-year-old Kalielah Davis was shot in the head as she sat with others in a vehicle near Kadie the Cow on the night of September 5th, 2025. Five people have been arrested for her murder including four teenagers. Two of the suspects are 15-years old. Surveillance video from several locations helped police track and identify all of the suspects.

Santiago said parents were just dropping off their teens after events to socialize in the popular Uptown area. All of the surrounding businesses are closed by 11 p.m. she said.
