A Maysville home was destroyed Saturday after open burning spread to the structure, according to Banks County Fire and Emergency Services.

Fire units were called to 282 West Ridgeway Road on Nov. 29 and arrived to find a single-family residence fully involved, along with several acres of brush burning, Fire Chief Steve Nichols said in a situation report. Crews launched a defensive attack, but the home was declared a total loss. No one was inside at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Jackson County Correctional Institute crews assisted firefighters at the scene. The cause of the blaze was ruled accidental due to open burning that “got out of hand,” Nichols said.
