BALDWIN — During a special ceremony before the Baldwin City Council on Tuesday night, Interim Fire Chief Ross Jackson pinned the department’s two newest lieutenants, Hayden Benfield and Chasten Parson.

Jackson said Benfield has earned the trust of his fellow firefighters and demonstrated leadership during a challenging period.

“The choice to promote him was very easy,” Jackson said. “Hayden is what we hope to find moving forward to continue to grow and encourage growth in others.”

Benfield was pinned by his wife, Ashley, whom Jackson credited as Benfield’s biggest support system.

Parson, who was pinned by his wife, Lauren, brings experience from larger departments in Hall and Forsyth counties. Jackson said he has already made a strong impact in Baldwin.

“Parson has stepped into his officer role with an open mind and a vision to help this department grow towards the future,” Jackson said. “He has begun to really inspire the younger firefighters under his authority to strive to train and continue to build their own careers. His leadership skills have continued to develop and grow.”
