ALTO, Ga. — The Alto Town Council will hold an emergency called meeting at 6 p.m. tonight for a discussion involving the town’s water department.

According to the meeting agenda, the sole item of new business is a water department discussion. No votes are scheduled, and the agenda does not include approval of minutes or other routine business. Public comments are expected as part of the meeting.

Friday morning, Now Habersham spoke to town clerk Penny Rogers for information regarding the agenda. Rogers said she did not set the agenda or could say what the discussion entailed.

“The agenda was made and the meeting was set by Mayor [Gail] Armour,” Rogers said. “I was just asked to send it out.”

Now Habersham reached out to Alto Mayor Gail Armour to get clarity regarding the nature of the discussion. “It’s a discussion between water department employees and the council,” Armour said.

Friday marks the fifth regular or special called meeting for the Alto City Council since mid-October, and while many of those meetings have centered on the milage rate and proposed 2026 budget, which was tabled again on Tuesday, there has not been an agenda item in any of those meetings regarding the water department.

Armour was non-committal in her response. “I’m limited on what I can say, so I am just going to leave it at that.”
