ALTO — The Alto Town Council will hold a public hearing and work session Tuesday evening ahead of its regular monthly meeting, where members are expected to discuss and potentially vote on the town’s proposed 2026 budget.

The public hearing on the budget is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Alto Town Hall, followed by a work session at 6:15 p.m. and the regular meeting at 7 p.m.

Tuesday’s agenda includes adoption of the 2026 budget, consideration of an updated Local Emergency Operations Plan, and discussion of a request for qualifications for engineering services.

The town’s spending plan follows last month’s vote to raise Alto’s millage rate from 4.37 mills to 6.2 mills — the first increase since 2016 — to help offset a projected budget deficit. Mayor Gail Armour previously said inflation and higher insurance costs have strained city finances, while officials aim to maintain essential services heading into next year.
